Thom Yorke starts Europe Wide Climate Campaign
Feb 27th, 2008 by admin
The activistic action of Thom Yorke is very popular! According to the London Paper Today (February 27 2008), Thom launched the European Climate Campaign in order to push the european Goverments to reduce the carbon dioxide emissions. Yorke and the organization “Big Ask Europe” target in a 30% reduction of carbon dioxide emissions till 2020 and 90% till 2050! This seems to one of the most important attempts to reverse the ecological problems caused by emissions!
Groups from 17 european countries are part of the Big Ask Europe and all of them “force” European Union to push the member countries to reduce emissions. Yorke tries to extend the action of Big Ask Europe in other countries, after the success of the organization to convince the UK goverment to introduce a ground-breaking Climate Change Law. The organization calls the citizens of European states to send environmental messages to their goverments!
In his press release Thom said:
“We will never wake from the nightmare of climate change unless our national governments and the European Union act. They are the only ones who can put the structures in place that will help us tackle climate change. That is why we are launching The Big Ask in seventeen countries across Europe. By committing to annual cuts in our emissions at a national and European level we can play our part in tackling climate change, and set an example for the rest of world to follow. Hundreds of thousands of people want to see their governments doing more about climate change. If you are one of them you can find out more about The Big Ask campaign in your country at www.thebigask.eu.”
It is really nice when a great artist use his power for good purposes. The Earth found a great friend in Thom Yorke’s face! But we shouldn’t forget that every single citizen of this world can use his power to push goverments to apply Environmental Laws!
