Best Money I ever spent!!

First off let me say I am a KID A fan. I open my CD collection and Kid A is the only CD that calls out to me ‘play me, play me’ Yes sick I know but very typical of a Radiohead addict.. I spent $23 on this collectors edition. You get Kid A which is always a plus BUT you get a CD with live cuts and let me just say, this CD is worth the price many times over.
Best cut on the CD for me is Everything In Its Right Place where Thom Yorke’s vocals go off sounding like an instrument with static. He does a great job with this song. It was recorded at the Canal Studios along with other great recordings, Morning Bell(with acoustic guitar – Ahhh!), The National Anthem, How To Disappear Completely (fantastic recording), In Limbo, Idioteque, and Motion Picture Soundtrack (always a favorite). These are all live and they blew my head away.
The Second CD also features recordings from BBC Radio One, Everything In Its Right Place, How To Disappear Completely, Idioteque and the National Anthem all quite crystal clear with a different take on the songs. Optimistic was recorded live in Victoria Park and the last cut on the cd is True Love Waits a live version.
If you are a Kid A fan this is a must have for you as some of these recordings of these songs are better than what is on the cd in my opinion but I also guarantee you will not be disappointed!! |
Lack of goodies on DVD drops this to 4

| Well, I am going to try and keep this short. If you are investigating purchasing this edition of the album you already know about this release so I wont bore with the details. Disc 2 is quite excellent, especially the BBC recordings. A high point would be “How to disappear” which has a full minute of a creepy drone intro. The live recordings from France are a nice addition as well. What is disappointing about this is the dvd. Only 3 live songs from Later with Jools? What gives? This is especially strange since the dvd in the Amnesiac special collectors edition is LOADED with goodies. If you are debating purchasing this or the two disc version look at it this way. Disc 2 is where it’s at. I could take or leave the dvd. The reason I purchased the 3 disc version is that KID A is IMO one of the greatest albums of this decade so I was going to purchase the 3 disc regardless. I would however HIGHLY suggest you pick up the 3 disc Amnesiac. If you are a mild to moderate Radiohead fan just pick up the 2 disc version and save the 10 additional bucks that you would cough up to buy this. I hope this was somewhat helpful. |
